Fun Run, not so Fun

Early in June we decided to take Audrey to the Fun Run at IWU. The concept is to instill a positive attitude toward physical fitness, as it's not competitive (hint the name) and when you cross the finish line, everyone gets a ribbon. Jeremy was assigned the duty to run with Audrey but they didn't do much running. She apparently walked the entire way, wanting no part of running or holding Jeremy's hand or of him carrying her. Fun run, it was not.

We really thought she'd like it. She's a super fast runner and runs around the yard with neighbors all the time.

She didn't even want the ribbon.

But that's our observer child--very willing to watch others, not so interested in doing it herself.

a little comparison

I don't always remember to take pictures when Allie wears a dress that was Audrey's. I did the other day. Can you guess who is who?

Audrey is becoming a lot more vocal....

Audrey is becoming a lot more vocal at times. Barking orders, expressing her opinion and telling you if something bothers her. She knows to say please and uses it to her advantage too. Ex: " Mommy, can we go back to the park pleeeeaaaassse? In public, though, she's become much more reserved. She's even begun sucking her thumb--something she's NEVER done, until now, at the age of two and a half! Here is an example:

Jeremy was playing with his new drill he got for Father's Day. We were all out back. Audrey was splashing around in her pool, Allie was perched on a blanket close by. Jeremy walks out of the house with his new drill and Audrey stands up and with points her arm to the garage and says "no, Daddy, take it to the garage!"

Summer Solstice

Yesterday was the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. Jeremy was explaining this to Audrey. I said, "we should do something..." he said, "go get ice cream." Later at the supper table Jeremy asked Audrey what the Summer Solstice meant. She replied "I get ice cream!" So, we started a family tradition of getting ice cream every year on the longest day of the year.

Allie 6 month

Miss Allison, 6 months

Allie had her 6 month check-up this morning. She's 97% for weight, 75% for height and 85% for head. I also ordered her Britax carseat as she's outgrown her infant carrier. Allie isn't crawling yet and doesn't like to roll over but she's very strong. The doctor commented on how strong and solid she was. ( He also said she sat up so well because she had such a large cushion--her butt!) She does sit on her own and will pull herself up with help. She likes to play with her ears and feet. She loves to watch Audrey and will often laugh when she (Audrey) jumps or talks to her. She's recently began taking baths with Audrey too. She loves to splash and play with the water toys--but Audrey isn't too keen on Allie invading her bath just yet. The motor boat sound is new to Allie--the one where she sprays water, or formula, or baby food everywhere when she does it. She's making more sounds now, and Jeremy swears the other night she said, "Daddy." She didn't.

It's kinda crazy how close Audrey and Allie's stats are. Out of curiosity, I pulled out Audrey's. At 6 months here's how they compare:

head: 17 1/4 17 1/4

Allie wears 12-18 month clothes now, and some 24 month. She's in the bin now that houses all of Audrey's fall and winter clothes that she wore, which means if Allie grows too much in the next few weeks/months, I may have to buy more clothes! Or, she's going to be wearing Christmas clothes in September! She wears size 4 diaper.

our only assignment is to get her to sleep through the night by herself. She's been back in her crib, but we still have to go in and give her a paci every time she wakes up--about 5-7 times a night. Now that she's outgrown the car seat, we can't fall back on that when we get tired. :(

update

Geesh it's been awhile since I've updated this blog. Life with two girls is starting to catch up with us I suppose. We just wrapped up a very busy, entertainment filled weekend that had me in the kitchen nearly the entire time. I love the kitchen. The hard part is entertaining a 6 month old while making delectable goodies. And lately there hasn't been enough coffee to combat the 5 am wake-up calls. I'm wiped. I'll update this soon. The last piece of turtle cake awaits me.

Happy Father's Day to my wonderful husband. I still owe you a pie....

pancakes for breakfast

Audrey has been reading books as part of the Library's Summer Reading Program. In one of the books they make pancakes for breakfast. That's all Audrey talked about the rest of the day. Not wanting to make pancakes at 8:45 p.m., I told her we'd make them for breakfast the next day. And she remembered! One of the first things she asked me when she got up was "pancakes, mommy??" She made them all by herself. I cracked the eggs but she added all the ingredients and stirred them up. With my help she even poured them onto the hot griddle and watched for the bubbles. She HAD to have her apron that Aunt Autumn made her too. I love it that Audrey loves to cook! I should note, she not only made them but she ate a lot of them too!
